Free train (Rail to Refuge) and coach (Road to Refuge) travel for people fleeing domestic abuse to reach a confirmed refuge space anywhere in Great Britain. Booked by the receiving refuge.
Rail to Refuge is a partnership between Womens Aid and the Rail Delivery Group, set up in April 2020, providing free train travel for women, men and children fleeing domestic abuse to a refuge in Great Britain. Road to Refuge is a similar scheme with National Express launched in 2023, offering free coach travel. You must have a confirmed refuge space; the refuge books the ticket on your behalf and you travel as a normal passenger. Since launch over 8,600 survivors have travelled.

Eligibility: Anyone fleeing domestic abuse who needs to travel to refuge accommodation
Not suitable for: You will need a confirmed place at a refuge to use this travel scheme. You cannot book it yourself — your refuge has to arrange it for you.
